Dec 232020

Excellent rehearsal with the quartet in attendance on Sunday with Charlie Smith! Well done!!

Happy Holidays everyone! Just a reminder that we have no rehearsal on Sunday, December 27th.

Marilyn, at the Mercury Cafe, would like us to keep the January 2nd performance date on our calendar. She is hoping to be open again by then. I’ll keep you posted next week.

We’ll see everyone (Possibly No Ben), from 5:30 until 9:15pm, on Saturday, January 2nd, for our 6:30 to 8:30pm performance at the Mercury Cafe Jungle Room (2199 California St, Denver).

Please wear your maroon band outfit, and bring all equipment, including the PA System; drum set and carpet; brass mutes and stands; woodwind stands; and music stands to hold your set sheet. There is a piano on stage.

Guests are encouraged to attend. The cover charge is $10, but we get to keep $8 on each one. Depending on how many people you bring in, will determine how much money will be deposited into your personal account. The Mercury Cafe has limited capacity and requires everyone to wear masks. Socially distanced parties are also required at the Mercury Cafe.

Be sure you have all 16 tunes prepared and memorized for the January 2nd performance.

Please remember that the $165 January 3-24 monthly dues are due on Sunday, January 3rd.

Once again – Due to Tri County Health’s Level Red public health order, some additional safety protocols will need to continue to take place at each rehearsal until further notice. Please check your temperature before you leave for rehearsal. Please wear a mask at all times, even when playing a wind instrument (Please put a small slit in your mask, so you can just slip your mouthpiece in when playing). A 2nd mask should be worn over the slitted mask, when not playing. Please also have your bell covers on at all times. We’ll continue to be socially distanced a minimum of 6 feet apart.

Jacob has the January 3rd listening.

We’ll need to rehearse the following on Sunday, January 3rd:

Improv Book – Pg. 20 – I viio/ii ii V7 Turnaround Exercise

On Sunday, January 3rd, we’ll also rehearse the following tunes: What a Wonderful World, Tiger Rag, Tenor Madness, Sweetest Gal, Ory’s Creole Trombone, Midnight in Moscow, I Ain’t Got Nobody, Fly Me to the Moon, Dr. Jazz, Creole Love Call, Caravan, Basin Street Blues, and All of Me (Let’s see how many of these can be done from memory).
