13 – Christkindl Performance (1-4:30pm);Dinner & Rehearsal (4:30-9pm)

Please arrive at the Christkindl Market by 1pm this Sunday, December 8th. We will be performing in a heated tent, but please dress for the cold weather. Please wear your blue/slacks band outfit. Drum Set, Jake’s Splash Cymbal, Trevor’s Keyboard, and Andrew’s String Bass, Amp, and Tuba will be needed. A PA System will be provided. Unload equipment on the west side of Arapahoe St, by the tent, between 15th and 16th Streets, across from the clock tower. The location is very close to where we performed for Make Music Denver back in June. Parking will be on our own, so after unloading, please find on street parking, if possible. We will do a sound check from 1:30 until 2pm, followed by our 2 to 4 pm performance. Please be sure all 18 performance tunes are prepared and memorized! We’ll then load up and transfer to Flesher-Hinton Music Store. Dinner will be next store to Flesher-Hinton, at the pizza/pulled pork sandwich place. We’ll then run an abbreviated rehearsal – we can set a goal to be finished by 8pm, if all goes well.

The December dues need to be turned in on Sunday (except for Jake C, Copland & Trevor, who have already paid).

On Sunday, December 15th, we need to have a parent/student trip meeting after our band’s 3:50 to 4:30pm performance at Westminster Elks Lodge. I’ll have pricing, itinerary and payment information for our upcoming CMEA/Broadmoor Hotel, Sacramento Music Festival, and possible NYC performance tour trips. Please plan on having at least one parent attend. We’ll need everyone to have their calendars with them as well. We also need to see which parents can help with the car pool to/from Colorado Springs in January.

Thanks again for Josh taking over as our drummer. You’re doing a great job!! We are still trying to find a 9th, 10th or 11th grade guitar player.

Congratulations for Copland’s selection to the 2014 All State Jazz Band! Also, congratulations to Jake for being selected as the alternate trumpet player for the All State Jazz Band! That is fantastic!!!!!

TRANSCRIPTION ASSIGNMENT: Everyone is required to transcribe a solo from our professional recordings. We should be able to listen to all transcriptions this Sunday. Adam is doing “The Mooche,” Jake C is transcribing “Saints,” Jake W is doing “Bourbon Street,” or something else, Andrew is transcribing “Bill Bailey, and Trevor is transcribing “Washington and Lee Swing.” Copland has already completed and performed his transcription. Josh is working on his drum set technique.

Please be sure the dominant 7th plus nine & pg. 18 in Bill’s Improv Book are prepared.

Also, we need to decide on the 3 selections for the December 15th DJC Holiday Potluck session – hopefully, Black Botton Stomp plus 2 more?

Please be prepared to rehearse the other selections on our set list, including The Mooche, Marchand De Poissons, After You’ve Gone, Wolverine Blues, Blue Skies, I’ve Found a New Baby, Just a Closer Walk With Thee, Down By the Riverside, among others.

CONGRATULATIONS FOR BEING INVITED BACK TO PERFORM AT THE 2014 CMEA CLINIC/CONFERENCE AT THE BROADMOOR HOTEL ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 23RD!!!! The actual performance will be from 4:45 until 6:30pm in the Exhibit Hall. We’ll make it a two day trip with an overnight stay at the Broadmoor. You’ll be able to attend performances and clinic sessions throughout the day on Friday, January 24th. Parents are invited to come along and enjoy a night at the Broadmoor for their low convention rate of approximately $220 for a double room (regular price is around $350!). Please let me know as soon as possible if any parents would like to be included in our group reservation.
