PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR OUR RECORDING SESSION ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH: Please arrive at Flesher-Hinton Music Store (3936 Tennyson, Denver) by 6:15pm. We have canceled the earlier 5:00 pm scheduled photo session, since Bobby can’t arrive until 6:30 pm. Driving directions can be found on the Event Calendar page.
Welcome to Matt Guerrero, our new pianist! He will be a wonderful addition to our DJC Youth All-Stars!
Bobby has announced that he’s leaving the band since he has been selected to perform in the Blue Knights Winter Percussion Ensemble. We wish him well in that group and throughout the future. Bobby is going to help the new drummer transition into our band. We really appreciate that assistance!
We have the runner-up drummer from last year’s auditions coming on Sunday to play for us. His name is Gage Williamson, a senior at Thunder Ridge HS. Please be prepared to play Royal Garden Blues several times.
We will take our photo after the drum audition is completed, so please wear your blue outfit.
The band has decided to look at the possibility of taking the performance tour to New Orleans from Thursday, April 26th through Monday, April 30th. Please let me know by Friday if these dates won’t work for you. Otherwise I’ll price out the trip and schedule our parent/student meeting in the next week or two.
Please remember to bring your listening CD’s to Sunday’s rehearsal.
Please prepare the following 3 recording session tunes for Sunday:
Royal Garden Blues
St. Thomas
St. James Infirmary
Practice your pentatonics around the circle of fourths. Also, your major triads plus six around the circle of fourths, on page 6. We’ll continue working on the half step exercises on pg. 9 as well. Please also prepare pp. 14-16.
Everyone should now have their transcribed solo complete from memory and on manuscript paper – please be prepared to play your solo for us on Sunday.
Please work on lifting the Wolverine Jazz Band’s arrangement of Caravan. Also, please practice Avalon in Eb for Ben’s vocal (transposed lead sheets now in the downloads section).
Time permitting, we will work on the following tunes: New Orleans Stomp, Five Foot Two, Avalon, Maple Leaf Rag, After You’ve Gone, Ain’t Misbehavin’, All of Me, Don’t Blame Me, Exactly Like You, I’ve Found a New Baby, Black Bottom Stomp, Canal St. Blues, Singin’ the Blues, Si Tu Vois Ma Mere, The Mooche, Dead Man Blues, Caravan, Cornet Chop Suey, and Them There Eyes.
The updated set order sheet and all audio recordings can be found on the Downloads page.
